The ALCONF conventions were biannual; records of the conventions consist of minutes, agendas, and reports of various commissions and committees of the ALCONF. These records provide a good overview of the ALCONF's activities. The bulk of the collection consists of records of various commissions and committees which are organized alphabetically by name. Certain commissions joined with or were superseded by other Lutheran organizations before the ALCONF disbanded in 1954. In the early 1940s ALCONF reorganized; as a result, the Commission on Inner Missions joined with the Department of Welfare in the National Lutheran Council (NLC) in 1941. In 1942 the Commission on Home Missions was dissolved. It had worked with the Lutheran Home Mission Council, but both organizations' work was being superseded by the NLC Division of American Missions, organized in 1942. The Commission on Student Services joined with the NLC in the mid-1940s, along with the ULCA Board of Education, forming in October of 1945 the NLC Student Service Commission. The Commission on Parish Education was dissolved at the same time. In 1953 the Commission on Young People's Work was disbanded, its work being fulfilled by the All-Lutheran Youth Leaders' Council. The correspondence came from the various officers of the ALCONF throughout its existence. It provides a general overview of the ALCONF's administrative functions. Correspondence pertaining to or produced by a particular committee or commission is filed with that commission or committee. Special correspondence relative to the formation of the ALCONF is filed separately under "Formation of the ALCONF, Correspondence." This is accompanied by minutes of meetings regarding the formation of the ALCONF. The photographs consist of two copies of the ALCONF members at a meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota in October 1930.
